Here’s How Celebs Paid Tributes to Manoj Kumar

Bollywood legend Manoj Kumar’s (87) death has saddened the film fraternity. Born Harikrishan Giri Goswami on 24 July 1937, he changed his name to Manoj Kumar after Dilip Kumar’s character in Shabnam. He gained immense glory for his terrific acting and dialogue delivery. Although he appeared in films across genres, his rise to stardom peaked for patriotic roles.

In a career that spanned more than three decades, he only acted in 50-plus films. The actor breathed his last today at Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai due to prolonged chronic heart-related complications. Responding to Manoj Kumar’s death, here’s how celebrities paid tribute to him.

Subhash Ghai penned an emotional note for the Upkar actor. “BYE BYE MANOJ JEE. The legendary filmmaker of India who influenced patriotism through his cinema through his charismatic presentation of poetry, songs, drama, and master craftsmanship of camera movements. In our generation, we were his fans and admired his sense of patriotism and cinematic expression.

Aamir Khan issued a statement that said “Manoj Kumar was not just an actor and film-maker, he was an institution. I have learnt so much watching his films. His films were often based on important social themes, which brought him really close to the common man. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Akshay Kumar on X posted – “I grew up learning from him that there’s no emotion like love and pride for our country. And if we actors won’t take the lead in showing this emotion, who will? Such a fine person, and one of the biggest assets of our fraternity. RIP Manoj Sir. Om Shanti.

Karan Johar wrote, “Today we lost a Hindi cinema legend…Shri Manoj Kumar… It took me back to a screening of Kranti I saw as a child… sitting excitedly on the floor with other kids and a packed screening room of filmmakers and actors and industry giants… this was a ROUGH CUT of the film… a 4 hour long version… Manoj ji was sharing his film at such an early stage seeking feedback… seeking opinions for his ambitious motion picture… the film went on to create history at the box office…”

Ajay Devgn on Instagram said, “Manoj Kumar ji was not just a cinematic icon – he was a personal milestone in my family’s journey. He gave my father, Veeru Devgan, his very first break as an action director in Roti Kapda Aur Makaan. From there, their collaboration continued all the way to Kranti, creating moments that are now part of Indian cinema’s golden history.”

Tollywood actor Adivi Sesh paid respect to Manoj Kumar on X by calling him, The man who defined the word Bharat, Rest in Peace Sir, Legend.
