Kangana Ranaut Politician Salaries: Kangana Ranaut, a Bollywood big name and Member of Parliament with the BJP, has once before thrown a public debate into a furore-this time about what she says is “the most underpaid profession” in India, politics. The actress, known for her bold and unfiltered opinions, recently had an Instagram story supporting Union Minister Suresh Gopi, who confessed to wanting to step away from political life.
Politics Is the Most Underpaid Job: An Honest Take by Kangana
Sharing a news piece about Suresh Gopi’s statement, Kangana wrote, “Politics is very harsh profession and most underpaid job ever”. She elaborated that public personalities are constantly judged for managing their professional with political work. “Like this, no honest achiever would want to work for the welfare of people,” she further argued saying citizens ought to respect working professionals who also function in politics.
While public perception often assumes politicians earn huge sums. An official monthly salary of an Indian Member of Parliament is around ₹1 lakh, plus allowances, which can bring their total income to about ₹2.5-₹3 lakh per month.
However, unlike actors or entrepreneurs, MPs do not get paid for performance. They also pay their own expenses for travel, staffing any work done in their constituencies. Such costs can much more easily equal or exceed what they are earning. Especially for public personalities like her and Suresh Gopi, who made the cross to public service from lucrative careers, Kangana’s point strikes home.
Suresh Gopi, at some public function, spoke in all humility about another leader, Sadanandan Master, deserving to be minister- “new chapter in Kerala political history.” Kangana’s post backing Suresh Gopi reopened discussions into the emotional and financial toll on political living.
The BJP ticket saw Kangana being voted as a politician after winning the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Mandi (Himachal Pradesh). Last seen in Emergency, she acted and directed in the story of Indira Gandhi.

Kangana’s statements shine light upon an oft-ignored truth-politics in India is not all glamour. Beyond the shining façade, lies a job filled with late hours, public scrutiny, and paltry pay-moreover. Not every person entering politics does so for commercial gain. Many do so for the purpose.
