Nana Patekar and Utkarsh Sharma’s Vanvaas Shows Modest Growth. On its second day, Nana Patekar’s Vanvaas brought in Rs 1 crore. After two days, the total came to Rs 1.65 crore. On its second day at the box office, Vanvaas, which was directed by Anil Sharma and starred Nana Patekar, Utkarsh Sharma, and Simrat Kaur in the lead roles, saw a slight increase. The film’s two-day total surpassed Rs 1.50 crore after a 35% increase on the first Saturday.
Vanvaas added Rs 1 crore on its first Saturday after an unimpressive Rs 65 lakh opening on its debut day, bringing the total cume to Rs 1.65 crore in just two days of release. Nana Patekar’s film is being shown in limited quantities because of the recent release of Mufasa: The Lion King and the ongoing controversy surrounding Pushpa 2.
It is anticipated that the film will gain a little more on its third day and round up the first weekend in India at a total of over Rs 3 crore net. Even though the director’s last film was an all-time blockbuster and briefly even became an industry hit, these are not encouraging numbers. However, since Vanvaas has a very specific audience and was made on a modest budget—without any extravagant elements—the same hysteria cannot be expected here.
Similar to Avataar and Baghban, which serve tier 2 and tier 3 cities, the familial emotional drama is interwoven. In 2024, the genre does not appear to be particularly popular with the general public. Additionally, the Anil Sharma film’s commerce was severely hampered by the conflicting reviews it received. It might, however, be successful when it launches on OTT and satellite.
Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, which opens in theaters on December 25, will present the film with yet another formidable obstacle. In its first week, Vanvaas is anticipated to bring in about Rs 5 crore.
The main character of Anil Sharma’s Vanvaas is Deepak Tyagi (Nana Patekar), a dementia-stricken widower who resides in Shimla with his three adult children. Deepak wanders aimlessly after his children desert him in Varanasi on the pretext that he will drown in the Ganges. He meets Veeru (Utkarsh Sharma), a small-time criminal and neighborhood orphan.
