The clip, which was first taken in a light-hearted mood, is now becoming the subject of criticism, with social media users calling Janhvi a “bully.”
During the interview, Janhvi Kapoor is seen unexpectedly slapping her co-star Varun Sharma across the cheek in what appeared to be a playful gesture. The act caught both Varun and Rajkummar Rao by surprise, sparking laughter in the moment. Quickly realizing how it looked, Janhvi offered an apology, saying, “Sorry, sorry. Your cheeks are so… yeah, it was just there. It was asking for it. I’m so sorry, I’m really sorry.”
Although with a lighthearted description, the video has come back with a different twist, causing mixed reactions across the web.
Rather than laughing the incident off, most viewers condemned Janhvi for what they found to be unacceptable behavior. Some fans called her a “bully,” wondering why such physical actions are always brushed aside whenever celebrities do it for the sake of fun. Responses such as “Imagine if the roles were reversed” and “This isn’t funny, it’s disrespectful” have been trending on posts carrying the video.
Others, however, defended Janhvi, arguing that the moment was clearly playful and that Varun Sharma himself took it sportingly.
Varun, a comic-timing expert and the resident nice guy of F.R.I.E.N.D.S., wasn’t upset in the clip. He instead made light of it, not wanting to take things too far. His approach made the situation more controversial, with some tweeting that he did it well, while others asserted that his silence cannot justify the act.
What was once considered a harmless promotional blooper has now turned into a talking point about boundaries, behavior, and public perception. While Janhvi’s intentions may have been lighthearted, the resurfaced clip highlights how celebrity actions are often judged differently once social media takes hold of them.
