Let’s talk about a Bollywood icon who has ruled the industry since the 1990s, Rani Mukerji. She has worked with some of the biggest names in the business, including Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Aamir Khan. Married to renowned filmmaker Aditya Chopra, Rani once opened up about a painful chapter in her life when she went through a miscarriage.
Untold Story of Rani Mukherji:
Rani Mukerji made her feature film debut in 1996 with Raja Ki Aayegi Baaraat and earned her first box office hit with Ghulam. Over the years, she built a stellar filmography with iconic titles like Chalte Chalte, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Black, Hum Tum, Mardaani, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. With a career spanning over 25 years, Rani set herself apart in the industry through her thoughtful choice of roles and powerful performances. Early in her career, however, she didn’t dub for Ghulam. That was a decision made by Aamir Khan, Mukesh Bhatt, and Vikram Bhatt.
Her Statement:
At the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, she said, “They chose to dub my voice. They felt mainstream actresses should have a shrill voice. They didn’t believe a voice like mine, “sexy and empowering” fit the norm.”
Miscarriage and Loss of Child:
Rani Mukerji has been happily married to Aditya Chopra, the head of Yash Raj Films, since April 21, 2014. A year later, in 2015, the couple welcomed their daughter, Adira. In an interview last year, Rani opened up about the “terrible” miscarriage she experienced during the pandemic. Five months into her pregnancy, she lost her second child.
Reflecting on the emotional journey, she shared, “I tried for a second baby for almost seven years. My daughter is eight now, and when she was about one or one-and-a-half, I began trying for another child. I finally got pregnant, but I lost the baby. It was a very, very testing time for me.”
Upcoming Films:
Rani Mukherji is going to be seen in her most anticipated film, Mardaani 3, which is going to be released next year on February 27, 2026.
