Celebrated composer Sachin Sanghvi, one-half of the famous music duo Sachin-Jigar, has been accused in a sexual harassment complaint filed in Mumbai. The case was mostly filed following a complaint by a woman who alleged that Sanghvi exhibited inappropriate behavior and verbally harassed her during a professional engagement. Following that complaint, the Mumbai police registered the FIR and began to investigate further.
The police officials stated that Sanghvi got arrested only for a brief stint for questioning, following which he got bail from a Mumbai Court. Sanghvi’s legal team argued that he had cooperated fully with the investigation and denied any and all allegations against him, which led the court to grant him bail.
A statement on behalf of the composer was also issued claiming his innocence, with the assertion that these accusations were “frivolous and damaging” to his reputation. The police stated that the matter is still under investigation and that further evidence was being assessed.

The allegations have provoked a mixed bag of reactions from the entertainment industry. Some artists expressed shock and have asked for an impartial investigation while others have advised against jumping to conclusions until the case is over. A good deal of emphasis is being laid on the need for a secure work environment all through the board in any area of work in the industry.

Mumbai Police will proceed with the investigation, including retrieving digital communications and witness statements to corroborate the claims made by the complainant. In the event Sanghvi is found guilty, charges can have serious legal repercussions for the composer under Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to harassment and misconduct.
