The conspiracy was allegedly hatched by the gang of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
In June 2024, the Mumbai Police, while investigating the shootout incident outside his residence in Bandra in April last year. Unearthed a plot to kill the actor, which was also carried out by members of the Bishnoi gang. A bench of Justice NR Borkar granted bail to Waspi Mahmood Khan alias Wasim Chikna. Gaurav Vinod Bhatia alias Sandeep Bishnoi after the bench found that there was no concrete evidence against them except their presence in the WhatsApp group on which the alleged conspiracy was hatched and discussed.
A total of seven accused have been arrested in this foiled conspiracy case. The police allege that all of them are members of the Bishnoi gang. According to the police investigation, Gaurav, Waspi and another accused Rizwan Khan alias Javed Khan had conducted a recce of the actor’s farmhouse as well as his house in Bandra.
During the hearing today, Yashwant Chavare, the lawyer of Waspi and Gaurav. Argued that the allegations against them were fabricated to attract media attention. Yashwant Chavre informed that co-accused Deepak Gogalia alias Johnny Valmiki, who was arrested from Rajasthan in June last year, has already been granted bail by the Panvel Sessions Court.
The lawyer further said that Waspi and Gaurav were neither part of the Bishnoi gang nor were they involved in the alleged conspiracy. However, Additional Public Prosecutor Geeta Mulekar opposed the bail plea, saying that the allegations against the accused were serious. She also presented a photograph of Bishnoi with an AK-47 rifle from the WhatsApp group. And said that forensic experts are working to recover data from the phones of the accused. But after considering the arguments made and the fact that one of the accused had already been granted bail by the Sessions Court.
