Director Vignesh Shivan spoke about the public reaction to him dating the star actress Nayanthara. In Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale on Netflix, the director addresses the offensive meme about them, comparing them to Beauty and the Beast.
Vignesh said in the documentary that he was cognizant of the chatter around their relationship when they went public. “The first famous meme that came out was – no one can stop it if the beauty chooses the beast. I was compared to a dog. They said Nagoor Biryani (from Nagore) was being offered to a dog. The meme had both of our pictures,” he said emotionally.
And later, When Nayanthara spoke about Vignesh as a partner, Everyone started praising him with the tag of Couple goals for his respect towards women. End of the day, Its their personal choice and no one literally has any right to troll them.
The beauty standards have always been problematic and this is considered as the most common reason for mental health issues from depression to any extremes. Also there are many influencers and actors who are in that top position still promotes beauty standards with the color and shape. If this changes, There is a scope for better mental health in the society.
