E-Passport or Traditional Passport: It has become increasingly vital for frequent travelers to secure a passport that is universally accepted as secure and at the same time convenient. Traditionally, India has joined the category of countries offering e-Passports to its citizens as an alternative to traditional passports, but the question remains: for frequent travelers, which is better?
An e-Passport, or biometric passport, is a kind of passport that has a chip in it containing personal details and a photo and biometric fingerprints of the owner. This contributes to swifter and more secure passage through international borders than a traditional passport.
Fast Immigration Clearance – e-Passport holders typically have access to automated e-gates that almost always shorten waiting lines and time in the airport.
Augmented Security – The property of the biometric chip reduces its chances of becoming forged or a victim of identity theft; this is enough to soothe the traveler as he goes around the world.
Global Recognition – Many countries are now recognizing e-Passport, which occasionally confers waivers or fast-tracked entry to travelers.
It is accepted as valid worldwide and continues to be an utterly approved document for an international trip. Traditional passports, however, do not have a biometric security feature, resulting in longer processing times at immigration and a greater risk of tampering.
Although e-Passports are a little pricier than the traditional passport, the investment is justified for travelers who prefer speed, security, and convenience. However, the procedures for renewal and application are similar for both kinds of passports, with biometric enrollment being the only extra requirement on the part of e-Passports.
For frequent travelers, e-passports would be a better option. Benefits include automated immigration, better security, and wider acceptance at a worldwide level for the cost difference. However, traditional passports are still reliable for travelers who visit occasionally, or people who prefer to invest little upfront.
