EPF Interest After Leaving Job:
The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is one of the most trusted savings schemes for salaried people in India. Every month, a part of your salary is deposited into your EPF account along with your employer’s contribution. The government also gives an attractive interest rate on this money. Currently, the interest rate is 8.25%, which makes EPF a safe and rewarding long-term investment.
Many employees are confused about what happens to their PF money if they leave their job before retirement. Some think that once they resign, their account becomes inactive and stops earning interest. But in reality, the rules are different.
According to EPFO, if you leave your job before turning 58 and do not withdraw your PF balance, your account will continue to earn interest until you reach the age of 58. For example, if you stop working at the age of 40 and keep your PF money untouched, it will still grow with interest for the next 18 years.
After retirement at 58, if you do not immediately withdraw your PF, your account will continue to earn interest for three more years, i.e., till the age of 61. After that, the account becomes inactive, and no further interest is added. However, the money remains safe and can be withdrawn anytime.
Many people rush to withdraw their PF soon after leaving a job, thinking they will lose the money. But by doing so, they miss out on years of extra interest income. Keeping the money in EPF is usually more profitable than moving it into fixed deposits or other options.
1. Log in to the EPFO website using your UAN.
2. Update KYC details like Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account.
3. Select “Online Services” → “Claim (Form-31, 19, 10C)”.
4. Verify your bank details.
5. Choose the reason for withdrawal (retirement, medical needs, home purchase, etc.).
6. Submit with OTP confirmation.
7. The money will be credited to your bank account in about 7–8 days.
EPF is a powerful financial tool. By avoiding early withdrawals, you can build a strong retirement fund and secure your future.
