According to cybersecurity firm Check Point Research, more than 1,230 fake Amazon domains were created in just the first few weeks of June. These sites are designed to look like Amazon and trick users into revealing sensitive personal and financial information.
Scammers are using emails that mimic Amazon customer support. Subject lines like “Refund error” or “Account suspended” create panic. These emails urge users to click on links that seem helpful such as “Fix account issue” or “Verify your address.” But those links lead to fake login pages that harvest usernames, passwords, and card details.
Fake Amazon websites often have domain names that appear odd or off-brand. You may see unfamiliar extensions like “.top”, “.online”, or “.store”. Some use misspellings, extra characters, or hyphens for example, amaz0n-dealz.top. They may even show a padlock icon, but that doesn’t mean they’re safe.
To stay safe, start by using the official Amazon app or typing the web address directly into your browser. Don’t trust links from emails or messages. Even if they look real, they could lead to phishing pages.
Turn on two-factor authentication to protect your account, and always check the URL before entering any personal info. If a deal seems unusually generous like 80% off on a new phone chances are, it’s a scam.
