UPI Autopay: UPI Autopay is a new facility released by NPCI to allow customers to pay recurring charges like subscription, loan EMIs, bill payments, and OTT subscription fees directly from the UPI applications. The facility has simplified life for crores of citizens, but no one knows that some of these subscriptions will keep withdrawing money automatically until disabled manually.
Autopay is easy, but when a subscription or service is no longer needed or missed, the payments continue. It has created problems of unauthorized bank account withdrawals. For your money and in order to avoid wasteful spending, you should monitor UPI Autopay settings periodically. Thankfully, you can take full charge of such settings and disable unwanted mandates.
Most major UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and BHIM offer an option to view active Autopay mandates. Here’s a general guide:
Open your UPI app (e.g., PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm).
Go to the ‘Autopay’ or ‘Mandates’ section (usually found under profile or settings).
View Active Mandates: You’ll see a list of ongoing subscriptions or recurring payments.
Cancel or Suspend: Select the mandate you no longer require and choose to cancel, suspend, or deactivate it.
Tip: When you cancel, the service provider is not able to deduct money until you reactivate it again.

Anytime there is a new Autopay order, you will be requested for consent. No amount will be taken except you provide express consent with your UPI PIN. The system is therefore safeguarded, yet it still seeks your mind to remain clear.
UPI Autopay is fantastic, unless you are irresponsible in how you use it. Develop the habit of going through your live mandates every month. Disabling unwanted or missed subscriptions will keep your money safe and protect it from surprise deductions — and get your money spent just where you want it.
