Kantara 2 vs Idli Kadai vs SSKTK: Dasara turned out to be an actual celebration for a cinematic festival featuring three big releases lighting up theatres across the country from Kantara: The Legend Chapter 1, Idli Kadai, to Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (SSKTK). The weekend festivities saw a massive influx of moviegoers celebrating this diverse feast — from mythological action to heart-touching regional drama to romantic comedy. However, at the end of the day, one film began to tower over the rest-Kantara 2.
Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: The Legend Chapter 1 roared its way into the box office, making a tremendous entry. With an unheard-of ₹61.85 crore first-day collection across languages, the film maintained a steady pace even after a slight fall on Friday, thanks to strong matinee bookings on Saturday. Then, at the end of Day 4, the total collection of the film came to ₹165.71 crore, marking one of the biggest Dasara openings in contemporary times.
The myth-action-drama had outdone itself in both Kannada (₹19.6 Cr) and Hindi (₹18.5 Cr) markets, which is a testimony to its pan-India appeal. The film was on par in such grandeur that people had no option but to flock to the theatres over the weekend on the strength of appreciative buzz and silver screen glamour.
While the storm of Kantara was in full swing, Nithya Menen’s Idli Kadai gradually made its mark among Tamil audiences. The film narrated a beautiful, heartfelt slice-of-life drama, with ₹11 crore opening collections on Day 1 and sustaining its collections over the weekend. In its five-day run, Idli Kadai has grossed ₹32.57 crore, mostly from Tamil Nadu. Its engaging story, so relatable to audiences in an Indian context, helped it do great business.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari with a mega star cast opened reasonably well at ₹9.25 crore but weakened gradually over the weekend. With a 40% dip in collections on Day 2 and slight recovery on Saturday, it could total ₹22.1 crore over the weekend.
Kantara 2 is the clear winner among the releases for Dasara 2025. Its emotional plot, mythic storytelling, and transcultural appeal-were enthralling to all audiences across the length and breadth of India; thus, Rishab Shetty is now truly a top creative force to reckon with in Indian cinema.
