Kubera vs Sitare Zameen Par: June 21st was a big day for Bollywood and Tollywood with the releases of the much-discussed films Sitare Zameen Par and Kubera. Both films featured top talent, strong stories, strong emotional arcs, and were heavily advertised. Both films opened in sold-out theaters across the country. However, the numbers are in, and it was evident that among the two, Dhanush’s Kubera just edged ahead of Aamir Khan’s Sitare Zameen Par on Day 1 box office numbers.

With Dhanush and directed by Sekhar Kammula, Kubera had a good opening day collection of ₹13 crore in India. Kubera had strong performance in Telugu-speaking states and Tamil Nadu areas. With added star-power of Rashmika Mandanna and Nagarjuna, the style coupled with substance appealed to both mass audiences and family audiences alike.
Advance bookings were healthy in cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru, and word-of-mouth helped evening and night show occupancies. The dubbing of Dhanush for the first time in Telugu was a bonus and people were keen to watch this new avatar of the fine actor.
Conversely, Sitare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan’s return to an emotionally charged story, was not a disappointment either. The movie collected a record-breaking ₹11.7 crore on Day 1. It saw an amazing response in metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad.

The movie, a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par, appealed to families and the education-conscious audience. Although morning shows saw good audience, occupancy picked up significantly in the afternoon due to good word of mouth and Aamir’s box office pull.
Kubera vs Sitare Zameen Par: Though both films performed, Kubera has the current lead with ₹13 crore over Sitare Zameen Par’s ₹11.7 crore. However, with good word of mouth and individualized target audiences, both films will hold on through the weekend. The actual winner would be known by Sunday’s collection figures — and it would be a close margin.
