Maa Box Office Collection Day 1: Slow Start for Kajol’s Shaitaan Universe Film

Maa Box Office Collection Day 1: Slow Start for Kajol’s Shaitaan Universe Film

Maa Box Office Collection Day 1: Kajol’s new release, Maa, is a gripping contribution to the exponentially expanding Shaitaan Universe. Dark past and emotional trajectories, intense as they are, guaranteed the movie to start with a positive note depending on Kajol’s impeccable act and the stratospheric success of its previous installment with Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan. Day one box office collections, though, indicate a humble start.

Box Office Opening: Not So Spectacular

According to trade observer Sacnilk, Maa collected around ₹4.50 crore on day one from the Indian box office. Far from disastrous, but still underwhelming when compared to Shaitaan’s opening rampage. The movie had plenty to depend on Kajol’s star pull and tear-jerking substance of the plot, but the initial momentum has apparently been pretty slow.

Budget and Break-Even Point

Maa has been produced on an approximate budget of ₹55 crore, including the cost of production and marketing. To be break-even, the movie must achieve a consistent run at the box office and strong weekend rise. With the first-day opening, the film now must collect at least ₹25 crore until Sunday’s close to stay within the safety zone. If word-of-mouth picks up and multiplexes’ audiences turn out in higher strength, Maa may still have a fighting chance of recovery.

Comparisons With Shaitaan

It’s not easy not to compare Shaitaan, since after all they are set in the same universe and thematic setting. While Shaitaan was a supernatural thriller with good momentum, Maa is slightly more realistic in terms of its emotional drama and is unlikely to have the mass appeal. That change of pace could be the reason why it’s taking slower to pick up.

Final Verdict: All Eyes on the Weekend

Although day 1 collection did not ignite the box office, Maa has a good chance of coming back with positive word of mouth and family viewership over the weekend. The coming two-day performance will be pivotal for Maa to realize if it could reach or even surpass the standard set by its predecessor in Shaitaan Universe.
