The Girlfriend Budget Vs Collections: One of the most anticipated pan-India releases of 2025 is Rashmika Mandanna’s upcoming psychological romantic thriller The Girlfriend. Directed by Rahul Ravindran and backed by prestigious production houses – Geetha Arts, Dheeraj Mogilneni Entertainment, and Mass Movie Makers – Rashmika calls it a bold project, as she leads the film without a significant male counterpart in this thriller. Along with its multi-language release in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi, this film will also tap into her growing pan-India appeal.
The estimated overall budget of The Girlfriend is nearly ₹50 crores, which includes production, promotions, and distribution.
Production Cost: ₹35-38 Crores
Marketing & Promotions: ₹10-12 crores
Distribution & Certification: ₹2 crores
Reportedly, Rashmika Mandanna is charging about ₹6-7 crore for this, while the direction cost for Rahul Ravindran would be around ₹2 crore. Clearly, with these figures, the film would lie in the mid- to high-budget range for female-led films. Such films are scarce in South Indian cinema.
To break even, The Girlfriend needs to collect at least ₹50 crore net from the Indian market; to be counted as a hit, it would require an amount of ₹65-70 crore, while the superhit mark would start from ₹85 crore. A blockbuster classification for the film would be obtained when it crosses ₹100 crore within the domestic box office.

However, these producers would have cushioned themselves by net earnings of ₹21 crore through non-theatrical rights, which comprise:
Netflix Rights: ₹14 crore
Satellite Rights: ₹4 crore
Audio Rights: ₹3 crore
These will recover nearly half of the film’s total expenditure even before release, prompting much confidence from the distributors and OTT platforms.
The Girlfriend explores darker emotional themes like obsession and trauma, drastically different from Rashmika’s chirpy image on-screen. The combination of psychological intensity, visual grandeur, and her solo lead presence makes this a daring experiment. If it crosses the ₹70 crore mark, an Indian benchmark might well be created by Rashmika for female-led thrillers.
