With Alice in Borderland 3 set to premiere on September 25, 2025, fans who have been following the sensational show set in Japan are more than ready for one last trip with Arisu and his friends before they get to the thrilling conclusion to their stories. First, here is a short summary regarding what has happened in Alice in Borderland so far.
The beginning of the show introduces Arisu, a gamer who one day wakes in a deserted Tokyo with friends Karube and Chōta. They quickly realize they are trapped in the “Borderland”, where they must clear vicious games to make it to what seems like a safe landing. Each game is based on a playing card, and each playing card offers clues not only to the kind of game but its difficulty level based on the suit of the playing card – spades for strength, hearts for psychological games, clubs for group effectiveness and diamonds for smart/intelligent skills.
Over the course of Season 1, Arisu partners with Usagi to climb. Even as nearly all the good allies he makes are killed off during games, Arisu realizes each cleared card means they are getting closer to unveiling the mystery of the Borderland. Season 1 ends with the mysterious “gamemasters” showing up and some face cards appearing starting off a much darker narrative than the viewer could have anticipated.
This season heightened the tension with face card games that were far heavier on the psychological aspect of the games compared to the previous season. New and important characters like Kyuma, the King of Clubs, challenged players psychologically through strategic battles while the Queen of Hearts showcased emotional manipulation at its finest. The connection between Usagi and Arisu grew as they applied their intuition and forged trust in one another to stay alive.
The season combined storytelling with action, demonstrating that the rulers of Borderland were not invincible like the players themselves but instead were players that had once won and decided to stay. In the end, Arisu had defeated the Queen of Hearts in a mind game that was winning the biggest stakes in a battle of the mind. The two survivors were given an ultimatum to either return back to the real world or to remain in Borderland. Arisu and Usagi chose reality while the last seconds of the episodes brought the final twist to the season, revealing that not all was as it appeared to be.
The final season of the show will provide conclusions to questions that still remain, which even include questions such as: what was Borderland exactly? Was it a near-death state? A parallel dimension outside of the real world? Some other scenario? In the upcoming season, fans can expect to see Arisu and Usagi face the truth behind the games while experiencing their most difficult challenges yet.
