Ananya Pandey and Sreeleela: An unexpected post by a user on Reddit has stirred up conversation among fan circles, clarifying the offscreen drama involving actresses Sreeleela and Ananya Pandey, and a range of films that feature Kartik Aaryan, Karan Johar and a range of producers such as Dharma and Maddock.
As described by the user, the rising South Indian actress Sreeleela was not the original choice for her Bollywood debut opposite Kartik Aaryan. The movie, initially led by Tripti Dimri, went through a casting shakeup where once Tripti exited the film due to”date issues”. According to the post, Bhushan Kumar was looking for a female lead at the time, and Sreeleela was in the process of being confirmed for another project called, Tu Meri Main Tera.
The situation allegedly changed when Dharma Productions came on board and Karan Johar, as co-producer, wanted a change in the female lead. While the original producers were leaning towards Sharvari, Johar wanted Ananya Pandey. The role ultimately went to Ananya, as Sreeleela was disappointed. Reportedly, in what can be categorized as compensation, Kartik Aaryan offered Sreeleela the lead in another project (referred to as the Basu film).
According to reports, Sreeleela gave up two South Indian films for this opportunity, it does show her focus on the project. But things got rocky. She was later in talks for a Maddock Films fantasy romcom with Abhay Verma called Choomantar and had officially signed after a successful look test. While meanwhile, she had already been signed as the female lead in a film with Sidharth Malhotra; until the rest of the cast was announced and Ananya Pandey allegedly requested that their roles be swapped, meaning Sreeleela ended up second lead.
There is also controversy with Choomantar, which has also allegedly been put on the back burner, again because of Ananya’s alleged interest in it. The Reddit post even claims Ananya’s team leaked this story to the media calling her the first choice when no look test or official decision has been made.
While we can not confirm or deny these claims, it has raised questions about favoritism, politics in the industry, and the struggles for newcomers like Sreeleela breaking into Bollywood’s elite circles.
