Did YRF Shelve Jr NTR Standalone Spy Film After War 2 Failure?

Jr NTR Standalone Spy Film: India’s most gigantic and ambitious projects were produced by Yash Raj Films in the industry. So it is no wonder that the spy universe of YRF collected some of the best actors under a common franchise. The idea seemed perfect when the first two big hits, War and Pathaan, made it possible. The studio’s plans have apparently suffered a massive setback now with the disappointing performance of War 2. Most specifically regarding Jr. NTR’s eagerly awaited standalone spy film.

The Original Plan

Jr. NTR was to be in a major part of YRF’s War 2, starring opposite Hrithik Roshan. There was quite a buzz about creating a solo film within the Spy universe for the character, Agent Vikram, which both compares to Salman Khan owning a franchise and Shah Rukh Khan owning a franchise.

Impact of War 2

Unfortunately, War 2 did not fare as expected on its release date. The high-budget cinematic release with its gigantic star cast was not expected to meet either the financial or the critical expectations of YRF. Consequently, such poor performance has led to the reassessment of future projects by the studio. Which would include JNTR’s autonomous spy film.

Reports of Shelving

Insiders in the industry have suggested that YRF has indeed kept the solo Jr NTR project on hold if not completely shelved it. Apparently, the studio will be revisiting its strategy regarding the Spy Universe due to the huge financial risks and losses suffered this time. Now, rather than jumping into spin-offs in a hurry, YRF is more likely to consolidate its underlying storylines.

Jr. NTR’s Current Project Focus

This development would not put any brakes to Jr. NTR’s momentum. The actor is getting into some major Telugu movies like Dragon and Devara 2. Which his fans are eagerly waiting for. He continues to enjoy his fanbase despite YRF’s decision.

Though it will sadden fans to know of the shelving of the standalone spy film Jr NTR was going to star in. It shows the changing dynamics that large-scale filmmaking is presently following. For the time being, audiences be kept waiting for his big lineup in Telugu cinema while YRF redefines its Spy Universe roadmap.
