At the same time, Kiara Advani, despite also being part of the film, was barely noticed. Fast forward nine years, and their trajectories have flipped dramatically, Kiara is now one of the most bankable leading ladies in the industry, while Disha’s film career seems to have firmed up. So, what happened?
One major difference lies in their choices and approach. Kiara took bold risks early in her career. Her decision to star in Lust Stories, a bold and unconventional role for an emerging actress, set her apart. She followed it up with Kabir Singh, a film that stirred controversy but became a massive hit, and Good Newwz, where she shined in a multi-starrer ensemble. Disha, on the other hand, appeared to lean more into her glamorous image, often being cast in similar roles that highlighted her looks over her acting ability. Her public persona: active on Instagram, heavily focused on fitness, travel, and hobbies like kickboxing, anime, and gaming, painted the picture of someone who’s content with a laid-back lifestyle. Bollywood, for her, seemed more like a means to live freely rather than a singular passion.
Connections also played a role. Kiara Advani isn’t exactly an outsider. Her ties to the Ambani family and other industry elites gave her access to opportunities and networks that others might struggle to break into. She used this well, playing the long game with strategic role choices, building a strong PR presence, and improving her skills consistently.
Disha may have more followers on social media, but in the industry, followers don’t always translate to film offers. Her branding, heavily focused on glamour; may have led to her being typecast, limiting the roles she’s offered.
In the end, Kiara’s calculated risks, constant improvement, and industry connections propelled her forward, while Disha chose the peaceful path, and that’s okay too. Success looks different for everyone.
