Ghaati Box Office Collections: Anushka Shetty’s Lowest Opening Ever?

Ghaati Box Office Collections: South Indian superstar Anushka Shetty, endearingly referred to as the “Lady Superstar” of Tollywood, returned to the silver screen yet again in her latest outing, Ghaati. Although the film had decent pre-release expectations, the box office figures on the very first day seem far from encouraging. Reports from early trade indicate that Ghaati has had one of the weakest openings in Anushka’s career.

First-Day Earnings

According to industry sources, Ghaati managed an opening day collection of ₹2.8 crores across India. This amount is pretty low even for an actress of Anushka’s stature and considering her huge popularity and solid fan base in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. The gross is very poor compared to her other earlier films like Bhaagamathie and the Baahubali series.

Reasons why Ghaati does not collect much revenue

There are quite a few reasons given for the slow opening of the show. First, the movie did not create much buzz pre-release as there were not many publicity efforts attached to it. Secondly, the film’s unusual and darker storyline probably alienated family audiences, who usually form the bulk of foot traffic during the first weekend. Finally, stiff competition with another star-led movie which was released at the same week further split audience bases.

Contrasting Earlier Openers

Anushka Shetty has always opened well, even with female-centric films. Something over ₹6 crores came for Bhaagamathie on its first day, while her presence in Baahubali films ensured breaking figures. Well, considering the same, an opening of ₹2.8 crores is termed the lowest registered by this actress in the last 15 years.

Will Ghaati Recover from This?

Trade pundits, however, feel that Ghaati will be able to make up. Even though its opening is not strong, if it starts gaining momentum through positive word-of-mouth. The weekend collections will be of utmost importance in determining the fate of Ghaati in the future: whether it will recover from low starts or remain as one of those few box office disasters for Anushka Shetty.
