Ghaati Movie Review: Anushka Shetty’s Comeback Struggle

Ghaati Movie Review: Anushka Shetty’s Comeback Struggles with Pacing. The film marks Anushka Shetty’s return to big screens after a long time, directed by Krish Jagarlamudi. It was pitched as an intense tribal revenge drama and was anticipated to be vivid and haunting at the same time. The script stood tall, but a slow narrative and a pint of uneven execution dragged the film down.

Story

The film tells the tale of Sheelavathi (Anushka Shetty), who hailed from a tribal community in the Western Ghats. Alongside Elle Desi Raju (Vikram Prabhu), she moves from the stage of a life with simple beauty to one ravaged by vengeance. The drugs trade in the darkest underbelly of the region becomes a route for her transformation from a mere victim to a fighter.

Ghaati Movie Review:

The very idea of making a base for tribal life viewed in the light of exploitation had a promising premise. Mostly unfavorable for the development of the movie was the sheer lack of tempo imparted to the storytelling. The initial setup with heavy exposition moving at a snail’s pace compromising engagement. While the latter half gained momentum in terms of emotions and action, it still felt dragged.

The rugged Ghats are stunningly shown in a way that adds to the earthy flavor of the visual appeal of the film. The charm, however, is weakened by the outdated background score and the cliched treatment of the script.

Plus Points

Anushka Shetty all the way in the second half.

Mostly on-target feel of the Western Ghats.

Emotional moments ring home towards the climax.

Minus Points

Patience-testing slow narrative.

Support characters have weak writing.

Predictable screenplay with no freshness.

Ghaati Movie Rating: 2/5

Ghaati is an ambitious proposition that promised intensity yet delivered a snail-paced experience. Its high points are Anushka’s performance and the surrounding visual panorama, while the weaknesses are in lack of a gripping narration. For Anushka’s loyal fans, the movie might be worth a watch; otherwise, it will just be a letdown for the average audience.
