Indian TV Stars Who Made It Big in Bollywood

When Ba***ds of Bollywood got released, most of the people were curious about where they have seen ‘Aasman'(Lakshya Lalwani) before. Surprisingly, Lakshya started his career from mini-screen and has now made it to the big-screen. The transition from TV to the big screen is rarely a smooth one. Now and then, actors get stuck in small-screen roles, but there are some examples of crossover from the small screen to top roles in Bollywood. Here’s a glance at five actors who proved that whereas talent may be born on the small screen, it can certainly take flight from there.

Sushant Singh Rajput

Sushant Singh Rajput is the most glaring example of a TV star-turned-Bollywood star. He won his first breakthrough in the soap Pavitra Rishta. The audience fell in love with him, and his natural performance won over the hearts of the audience. Then he made a breathtaking entry in Kai Po Che! (2013). He then got famous for his role in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy and Shuddh Desi Romance! and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, his finest work to date.

Mrunal Thakur

Mrunal Thakur became popular with the serial Kumkum Bhagya. She had done just enough on the small screen and shifted to the big screen, making critics take notice for the international film Love Sonia. She became one of the new Bollywood stars after performing Super 30 with Hrithik Roshan and Jersey with Shahid Kapoor. With Sita Ramam, she has risen to be a mainstream heroine of South Indian cinema due to her versatility.

Yami Gautam

Yami Gautam’s started her career with TV show Chand Ke Paar Chalo. But she gained immense popularity with Vicky Donor (2012), which was a hit. Since then, Yami’s filmography speaks for itself as she has had the hits Kaabil, Uri: The Surgical Strike, and Bala. Yami is now one of the most bankable and consistent Bollywood actresses.

Ayushmann Khuranna

Ayushmann Khurranna was a MTV Roadies 2 winner before committing to the films and was a popular TV anchor. The actor, who is recognised for his choice of unique scripts, began his Bollywood career with Vicky Donor, which was a turning point for both him and the industry. With films like Dream Girl, Andhadhun, and Article 15, he has pushed within the boundaries of conventional cinema.

Lakshya Lalwani

Lakshya Lalwani became a popular actor with his television show Porus. His boy-next-door looks and screen presence caught up with him soon enough, drawing Bollywood’s attention. He has now starred in Aryan Khan’s debut directorial project, Ba***ds of Bollywood. Also, was a part of ‘Kill’ which was under Dharma Productions, Karan Johar’s banner.
