“Little Hearts”: Is it Little anymore? Why did it become such a big hit?

Telugu cinema recently witnessed a fresh and honest film, “Little Hearts”. This film exceeded everyone’s expectations and grossed over 40crs at the box office. The film, made on a small budget i.e, 2.5crs and starring relatively new comers making this amount of money makes us wonder, why a simple love story between two teenagers(one young and one old) made such a huge impact on the audience? Let’s check out the reasons…

Little Hearts is not little anymore

For the past 2 to 3 years audiences have been bombarded with heavy action spectacles, some of the films still worked despite being the same old wine in a new bottle. Sure films like ‘Court’, ‘Balagam’, ‘35 Chinna katha kaadu’ all struck a chord with the audience and they are unique in their subject matters.

Some love stories like “Sita Ramam”, “Hi nanna”, “Love story” did well at the box office, these too are somewhat niche in their presentation, they are targeted for adults.

Writing and conflict points

But, little hearts is a film made for a younger audience, the protagonists are young and the dialogues spoken by the characters are authentic in demographic sense.

The conflict points in the film feel natural and the honesty in writing is reflected on the screen. So we can say that the setup of the story and the characters are taken directly from real life, at least it feels like that.

Characters and performances

The performance of all the actors in the film is authentic and they look real, so when they go through certain emotions we(the audience) feel those emotions. The characters and their traits are all grounded in reality, the situations weaved around them felt natural and organic.

Akhil(Hero) and his friends are too immature and they are shown that way in the film, the actors played them in a natural way, no heroic swag and in no way they behaved like adults.

Music

Finally the music of the film, composed by Sinjith Yerramilli, the music in the film is the soul of the Little hearts. Songs like “Rajagadiki”, “Chaduvu ledu”, “Hello ani” did what they were supposed to do, take the story forward and present the emotion in the right balance.

Then there was a comedy song “Kathyayani nannu love cheyyave” this love song is so silly and humorous people burst out laughing from their seats, and the other one is a break up song, well the situation and the emotions of the characters are in that phase, but the song “Kathyayani bone chesava” is a comedic take on heartbreak.

All these plus points and the authenticity in its presentation worked well with the audience. People now are waiting for its release on OTT.
