Biggest hits of Malayalam cinema
From the past 3 years Malayalam cinema is witnessing a huge growth in their box office numbers, it all started with a survival thriller film ‘2018’ released in 2023, Tovino Thomas starred in that film which earned 177 crores at the box office.
Then after that Fahaad Faasil’s ‘Aavesham’, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ‘The GOAT life’, ‘Manjummel Boys’ and Mohanlal’s ‘Thudarum’ and ‘L2:Empuraan’ became the biggest hits of malayalam cinema.
All these films crossed 150 crores at the box office, Mohanlal’s L2:Empuraan stood tall among them with 265 crores. But, now things have changed.

With over 275 crores collected at the box office with a budget of 30 crores this Kalyani Priyadarshan’s ‘LOKAH’ became the all time Number one film of Malayalam cinema. Interestingly before the release of the film, nobody including the makers of the film thought this film would be such a big hit, Dulquer Salmaan, producer of the film openly admitted that in an interview given to The Hollywood reporter.
Beating all odds and with a female central character this film proved that a good cinema will always find its way into the audiences hearts.
Lokah emerged as first 100 crore film in Kerala
Lokah became the first film of Malayalam to gross over 100 crore in the native state Kerala, this alone is a huge achievement for the Malayalam cinema, as the industry is a small one compared to other industries in the country. A single film earning 100 crores at the box office will now open new doors for the filmmakers to dream big.
Makers are still yet to announce more about part 2 of LOKAH, fans are eagerly waiting for the announcement, whenever the film releases it will surely be the biggest Malayama cinema opener.
