Love In Vietnam Review: Is Avneet Kaur Rom-Com Worth Watching in Theatres?

Love In Vietnam Review: Is Avneet Kaur Rom-Com Worth Watching in Theatres?

Love In Vietnam Review: Bollywood continues to try its hand in romantic dramas, but the film Love in Vietnam, directed by Rahat Shah Kazmi, tries to offer more than typical romance. It has the beautiful locations of India and Vietnam along with threads of love, culture, and suspense woven into the lives of Shantanu Maheshwari and Avneet Kaur.

Story

The tale revolves around Manav (Shantanu Maheshwari) and Simmi (Avneet Kaur) who meet as childhood buddies with an innocent love story in India but life spins one into Vietnam for Manav to meet up with Lin (Khả Ngân), who is Lin? What puzzle does she add to Manav’s destiny? These are but some of the questions that the film poses and thus keeps the audience engaged right till the end.

Analysis

Once again, Shantanu Maheshwari has proved himself with a performance, straddling charm and maturity, pretty much convincing. There are some moments of elevation brought to emotion by Avneet in the second half. Khả Ngân is fresh in her appeal, while stalwarts Raj Babbar, Farida Jalal, and Gulshan Grover lend heft to the story. Although there are some script loopholes and time pacing problems, Rahat Shah Kazmi has ensured that the film is slick.

Plus Points

Solid performances by the main cast.

The cinematography portraying Vietnam makes it look authentic.

Soul-stirring songs capable of uplifting the atmosphere.

Novel approach toward merging romance with mystery.

Minus Points

Disjointed slow narrative in moments, mainly in flashback periods.

Unbelievable transitions in the writing that reveal gaps in the material.

Veteran actors have very little screen time.

The tired and clich?d romantic tropes dressed up in dramatic tension.

Final Verdict

That’s a touching love story that transpires here and even renders it somewhat visible in cultural beauty and emotional depth. However, the script never quite succeeds, and pacing is uneven with flaws, so it’s unfortunate that the film loses some of its potential. Still, very cool if someone is into romantic dramas with a hint of mystery, though.
