Prithviraj Sukumaran: During the promotions of ‘Salaar’ movie, Prudviraj Sukumaran said to SS Rajamouli “Malayalam actors don’t dream to be in Telugu cinema, we come from a small industry and for us to be in a Prashanth Neel film or an SS Rajamouli film is a thought that won’t even come in our dreams”
Contradiction to Dulquer Salmaan
Even though the context is about Prithviraj considers himself not good enough for Telugu cinema, there is other actor Dulquer Salmaan, he started acting in Telugu cinema from ‘Mahaanati’, until now he appeared in 2 more Telugu films as lead hero, both of those films became a blockbuster at the Box Office.
Now he is acting in another straight Telugu film which is under production. Tentatively titled as ‘DQ41’, Pooja Hegde is playing the heroine in the film.
Prithviraj as ‘KUMBHA’
Yesterday SS Rajamouli revealed the first look poster of Prithviraj from his upcoming film with Mahesh Babu, it is being marketed as #Globetrotter. So, from the above statement to being the central antagonist in an SS Rajamouli film is a huge career jump for Prudhviraj.
Malayalam cinema growth
For the past two to three years Malayalam cinema is growing leaps and bounds, recently ‘Lokah’, a female superhero film made headlines all over the country. Last year, ‘Premalu’, ‘Aavesham’, ‘Manjummal Boys’ became superhit at the box office.
In general Malayalam cinema makes very small films, usually their budgets range from 2cr to 15cr. A Telugu cinema promotional campaign budget is more than 5cr. So, Prithviraj saying we don’t dream to be in a Telugu cinema because here the market demands are so high, it makes complete sense from his perspective.
