After twenty-one years, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award has come to Malayalam cinema through Mohanlal. The award is for 2023. Earlier, Adoor Gopalakrishnan was awarded the award for his excellence in directing. Now, Mohanlal is speaking to the media on winning the award.
“Thank you to everyone who worked with the jury and the Indian government. I dedicate this award to Malayalam cinema. This is the biggest award I have received in my 48 years of film career. Before this, this award was received by greats, I remember everyone who was with me, I am very happy that Malayalam cinema has received the award in Indian cinema. The field I work in is God to me. That is why I say that the award was given by God. There is also the honesty that we show in our field of work. I share this award with everyone.”
“I am not someone who carries criticism on my shoulders, think about this moment. Tomorrow is the day the shooting of Drishyam 3 begins. When I was called from the Prime Minister’s Office to tell me about the award, I couldn’t believe it at first, I thought it was just a wild dream, I said, tell me more. Cinema has no limits now. Cinema is pan-Indian, if I feel like directing, I will do it again. If you ask me what my dream is beyond cinema, I can’t say right now, I am a person who dreams very little. May there be good films.” Mohanlal said at the press meet.
Meanwhile, many people from the film and cultural sector have come forward to congratulate Mohanlal. Mohanlal is the first Malayalam actor to win the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Mammootty said that Mohanlal has received a well-deserved honor and that he feels proud and happy. Mammootty said that the Phalke Award goes to a true artist who breathed and lived cinema.
Director Kamal said that Mohanlal’s achievement is a proud moment for Malayalam cinema. Kamal responded that Mohanlal cannot be seen as just a star and that he is one of the best actors that world cinema has seen. The award will be presented at a ceremony on the 23rd of this month.
