Prakash Raj Criticises National Film Awards:
Actor and filmmaker Prakash Raj has openly criticised the National Film Awards, saying they are “compromised” and undeserving of legendary actor Mammootty. Speaking at a press conference after the announcement of the 55th Kerala State Film Awards, Prakash Raj shared his thoughts on how genuine state awards are compared to national ones.
Prakash Raj, who served as the jury chairman for this year’s Kerala State Film Awards, praised the transparency and freedom given to the jury by the Kerala government. “When they called me, they said we need an outsider who is experienced, and we will not interfere with the decisions. That is what makes these awards fair,” he said.
However, when asked about Mammootty’s chances at the National Film Awards, Prakash Raj did not hold back. He said, “I don’t mind saying that National Film Awards are compromised. When files and piles are getting awards, it becomes clear that the process is not fair. Such a system doesn’t deserve Mammukka.” His bold comments have sparked wide discussion on social media, with many supporting his statement.
Mammootty, one of India’s most respected actors, has already won three National Film Awards for Best Actor for Mathilukal, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Vidheyan, Ponthan Mada, and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. Fans have often expressed that he deserves more recognition at the national level, given his consistent performances over the decades.
At the Kerala State Film Awards 2025, Mammootty won his seventh Best Actor award for Bramayugam, setting a new record. The survival drama Manjummel Boys also dominated the awards, winning Best Film and Best Director for Chidambaram.
