Rajinikanth & Kamal Haasan: According to the latest excitement, an epic combination could finally happen, after a gap of 46 years! Reports of a Kamal Haasan-Rajinikanth combination is making rounds on social media. And who is likely to direct? Lokesh Kanagaraj? All signs lead to the Coolie director.
The filmmaker, who is responsible for the blockbusters Kaithi, Vikram and Leo, reportedly met with the senior superstars a while back to talk about the film, which is rumoured to be a story of two aging mafia.
The reports also say that Kamal Haasan’s production company Raajkamal Films International, which produced ‘Vikram’, will co-produce with Red Giant Movies (Thug Life, Indian 2).
What will this mean for Kaithi 2? The Karthi led project was said to be next for Lokesh after Coolie, however, if the engines for this mega project are going to fire sooner than expected, it would mean Kaithi 2 gets delayed even further.
Meanwhile, despite mixed reviews. Coolie has as of Day 5 netted ₹200 crores domestic box office collection based on morning and afternoon shows.
Coolie added ₹5.6 crore on Day 5, bringing its full total net collection in India, as of 6 pm, to ₹200.1 crore, according to Sacnilk.
The movie collected a net ₹65 crore at the domestic box office on Day 1 when it opened in theatres on August 14. On its second day, which was Independence Day, Coolie fell about 16% from Day 1, and collected ₹54.75 crore. Unfortunately, on August 16, Coolie took an approximate 28% drop from the previous day, and collected ₹39.5 crore. On Sunday, Coolie registered another 10% fall, and collected ₹35.25 crore.
Aside from Rajinikanth, Coolie, also features Nagarjuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj and Soubin Shahir with a guest appearance from Aamir Khan but critics have been more critical of the ensemble cast than the film as a whole, and found the ensemble cast rather dissatisfying in terms of placement in the story they told, instead viewer’s feel that none of them fit well in the story.
