Kantara Chennai Promotion:
The makers of Kantara Chapter 1 have cancelled their promotional event in Chennai following a tragic incident at actor Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu. A stampede at the rally resulted in at least 41 deaths and left many others injured.
Hombale Films, the production house behind the film, shared a statement on social media expressing condolences and support for the families affected by the tragedy. The statement read that, in view of the unfortunate incident, the Chennai event was cancelled as a mark of respect and solidarity. The team also thanked fans for understanding and promised to meet the audience in Tamil Nadu at a more appropriate time.
The stampede reportedly occurred when the large crowd at Vijay’s rally became chaotic, leading to panic. Several people fainted and were rushed to nearby hospitals. Officials noted that overcrowding at the venue was a major reason behind the disaster. Tamil Nadu ADGP (Law and Order) Davidson Devasirvatham confirmed that more than 40 people may have lost their lives during the incident.
Kantara: Chapter 1 is the prequel to the award-winning film Kantara and stars Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah. During past promotional events, Shetty and Jr NTR spoke highly of each other and shared their bond with fans. Despite this setback, the film is scheduled to release on October 2.
The production house emphasized that this is a time for reflection and mourning, urging fans to join in sending thoughts and prayers to those affected. The cancellation also reflects the team’s sensitivity to public sentiment and the severity of the tragedy.
While the Chennai event could not take place, the makers are likely to reschedule promotions for a later date when it is safer and more respectful to the victims. Fans across India have expressed support for the decision, showing solidarity with the victims of the Karur stampede.
