Filmmaker Rohit Shetty, known for his high-octane cop universe, is now working on a critical new project, the biopic of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria. The film adapts Maria’s autobiography Let Me Say It Now. Mid-day learned that after a break, Shetty and star John Abraham resumed filming on July 7 at a college in Fort, Mumbai. The movie, still untitled, started shooting in April.
The next phase will be a 65-day shoot across Mumbai and Wai. A source revealed, “Rohit wants the film to feel real. Shooting on actual city locations will bring raw energy and authenticity.” The team is currently shooting indoor scenes, preparing for bigger action sequences once the monsoon ends. A large set will be constructed for major scenes, and the crew plans to shoot continuously until September-end.
This project marks a shift from Shetty’s usual style. It will delve into Maria’s 36-year career, highlighting landmark investigations like the 1993 Mumbai blasts and the 26/11 terror attacks. The film also covers other cases like the 2003 twin blasts, the Neeraj Grover murder, the Pune German Bakery blast, and the Sheena Bora case. The storytelling aims to capture Maria’s unique bond with Mumbai.

Once the biopic wraps, Shetty will begin pre-production on Golmaal 5. Confirmed in November 2024, the film will reunite Ajay Devgn and the iconic Golmaal cast. The series has entertained audiences since 2006, and fans eagerly await the new installment slated for early 2026.
