Shiva Re-Release: RGV’s Evergreen Classic is Back in Theatres

Shiva Re-Release: The cult film Shiva, starring veteran actor Nagarjuna, will re-release in theaters soon. Ram Gopal Varma directed the 1989 film, which featured Amala and Raghuvaran alongside Nagarjuna. After decades, the movie will return to the big screen. The makers will release their trailer on August 14, along with Rajinikanth’s Coolie.

Akkineni Nagarjuna wrote in a press statement, “Shiva gave me iconic hero status and made my character truly unforgettable. Even after 36 years, people still talk about the film, which inspired my brother Venkat Akkineni and me to plan the most spectacular re-release. We owe this not only to the audience who turned it into a cult classic but also to a younger generation that might have only watched it on YouTube. So, RGV, Venkat, and I decided to bring it back to theaters with 4K graphics and an unmatched Dolby Atmos sound experience.”

Ram Gopal Varma said, “Nagarjuna and the producers trusted me, and that faith helped the picture reach remarkable heights. People still recall every scene and character, which is astounding. I feel ecstatic that Annapurna Studios chose to re-release it. Although audiences greatly appreciated the old sound, we decided to completely rework it to meet modern standards. We transformed the original mono mix into Dolby Atmos using cutting-edge AI technology. Viewers may have watched Shiva before, but I assure you no one has ever experienced it the way they will now, with its unique sound.

We remade it in Hindi as Shiva in 1990, with the actors playing the same roles. The film won three Nandi Awards: Best Director (Varma), Best First Film of a Director, and Best Dialogue Writer for Tanikella Bharani. Along with achieving huge box office success, the film screened in the Indian Panorama mainstream section of the 13th IFFI (1990).”
