Son of Sardaar 2 Review: Mrunal Thakur Starts Hit Streak Again?

Son of Sardaar 2 Review: Mrunal Thakur Starts Hit Streak Again?

Son of Sardaar 2 Review: It is a sequel to the movie ‘Son of Sardaar’ made in 2012 with direction by Vijay Kumar Arora, to feature once again Ajay Devgn as Jaswinder “Jassi” Singh. The movie will be released on August 1, 2025, in theatres after it was postponed from the original date of July 25. Even though the movie faces a tough competition at the box office, this comedy film promises to win over the viewers because of its Punjabi-style comedy and some reminiscence about the earlier film.

Son of Sardaar 2 Cast:

Lead Actor: Ajay Devgn

Lead Actress: Mrunal Thakur

Supporting Actor: Chunky Panday

Director: Vijay Kumar Arora

Producer: Ajay Devgn and team

Son of Sardaar 2 Story Plot
Jassi visits Scotland in order to meet his estranged wife Rabia (Mrunal Thakur). But what began as a personal mission soon got out of hand into uncontrollable family brawls, tiger hunts, and cultural comedy. Running parallel to the adult storyline is a children’s subplot—headed by some young boy chasing after a mythical golden mango. Which ties everything up within family, tradition, and misadventure.

Son of Sardaar 2 Review:

The picture provides an engaging view of Punjabi culture set against the stunning backdrops of the United Kingdom. While it is packaged in situational and character moments, much of the humour rests on loud and common clichés and not original writings. Critics say it reuses templates of the franchise, not innovating on that.

Ajay Devgn’s muscles and screen swagger mark him as ‘Jassi,’ who traditionally caters to the comic energy in the film.

In Rabia, Mrunal Thakur takes in modernity, warmth, and makes a mark amidst an ensemble that tends to be male in nature.

Jocks like Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Kubbra Sait, and Neeru Bajwa will spice it up. An emotional emphasis and tribute in the film go to late Mukul Dev, whose final screen appearance was in this movie.

Positive Aspects

Ajay Devgn’s delivery acts as a solid anchor to the energies and humor of the film.

From Chandigarh to Edinburgh, the vibrant Punjabi settings and visuals add to the fun contrast and scale.

Good music including remixes of “Pehla Tu Duja Tu” and “Nachdi,” extra charm of nostalgia.

Among all the chaos, Mukul Dev’s genuine emotional tribute adds some realism for the scenes.

Negative Aspects
Old comedy repeats itself in a joke structure and a pacing that lacks freshness.

The children’s mango-hunt subplot seems not well-defined.

Overall Rating: 2.5/5

Son of Sardaar 2 is loud, melodramatic, and delightfully family-friendly. It’s filled with nostalgia, Punjabi swagger, and really high energy, and it’s all for mass appeal. It meets the mark with “paisa vasool” entertainment, especially for the crowd in love with the first installment and fans of slapstick comedy. But when it comes to innovativeness, it lacks coherence in the story and depth in emotion. To the average viewer looking for some surface fun and those familiar antics of Ajay Devgn. It becomes interesting, but for someone who craves fresh, comic cinema, this may be a little repetitive.
