Sumathi Valavu Malayalam Movie Review

Sumathi Valavu Movie Review: Sumathi Valav, which was heard as a grandmother’s story to put children to sleep and feed them in the nineties, will be a film that will excite the audience after many years. And when the hit combo Abhilash Pillai-Vishnu Shashi Shankar team up after Malikappuram, it will be ten times more exciting.

Sumathi Valavu Movie Review in detail

Although the team initially said that it has nothing to do with the real Sumathi stories, a thousand questions about what this Sumathi Valav is, whether Sumathi exists, and whether it has any connection with the Sumathi we have come to know after hearing it, got answers with the release of the film today. In a word, ‘very impressive’. A fun-horror family film that reminds us of the films of the nineties, the golden era of Malayalam cinema.

Sumathi Valavu: Plotline

The village of Kalleli in the nineties and the families who were very much in love, due to some circumstances, become polar opposites, and a family that is walking with an unquenchable vengeance. However, another family is walking with a sense of guilt that their family is the reason for the current situation of that family.

Appu, played by Arjun Ashokan, is a young man who grows up listening to horror stories and walks with the same fear in his youth. However, no one who knows Appu will believe the local rumors that Appu has gone after crossing the Sumathi curve, which no one is afraid to go after eight in the evening. Vishnu Sumathi Valavu has prepared the film in a festive mood, full of songs, action and humor, in a film that features around forty characters.

Top-notch Art Department?

The three departments that are worth mentioning along with the making of the film are the cinematography, art and music. Sumathi Valavu is the first work done in Malayalam by PV Shankar, who had turned the camera of the notable Tamil thriller film Rakshasan. Making the shots in a ghost movie scary for Malayalis who have seen ghost movies is a challenge, but PV Shankar has succeeded in scaring and shocking them from the seat.

Very-well use of CGI

Some scenes with the use of CG have been handled well without making them seem artificial. Along with that, the attention taken by the art department in recreating the year Manichitrathazhu was released in this period is commendable. Ajay Mangad and the team have created an environment that is close to the story of the nineties, which has added to Sumathi Valav’s excellence. And even the people passing through the backdrop have been changed to dress and look like people living in the nineties with great conviction. Gopika Anil and Sujith Mattanur should be applauded for that.

It is not such a trivial matter to talk about horror with humor, and Ranjin Raj’s music should be mentioned. Ranjin’s background score made the scary scenes even more perfect. While the songs, which are full of celebrations and happiness, with lots of songs and dance steps, are nostalgic for Malayalis, Sumathi Valav is a feast prepared by Ranjin Raj for Malayalis. The action is also worth mentioning.

Excellent Performances

The main key to the success of Sumathi Valav is the excellent performance of the more than forty actors. If anyone had gone wrong anywhere, it could have affected the core theme of the film. Appu played by Arjun Ashokan and Bhama played by Malavika Manoj, and their love story is beautiful. Balu Varghese, who came as Ambadi, who accompanies Appu, made his character as good as ever. When screenwriter Abhilash Pillai came in as Giri, the role was safe in his hands.

The performances of Gokul Suresh as a soldier named Mahesh, Siddharth Bharathan as Chemban, Saiju Kurup as CI Hari, Sivada as a teacher, Manoj KU as Appu’s father, Sminu as a mother, and Malikappuram and Sri Nanda and Sripad were all magnificent.
