His counter words
Pa.Ranjith said that Tamil cinema is producing 600 films a year, he and Mari Selvaraj, Vetrimaaran make 1 film in two to three years. How come people accuse us of spoiling Tamil Cinema, what all other filmmakers are doing? Why are we only being cornered?
Why the accusation?
So in general, Tamil cinema is trying to score their first Pan-India hit and score 1000 crores at the box office. Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth ‘Coolie’ was supposed to be the first 1000 crores but the film failed to reach the expectations.
Kantara phenomenon
Kantara Chapter ‘1’ recently released at the box office became a mammoth hit at the box office, it grossed over 800 crores at the box office and this is Kannada cinema’s second film to do so. This triggered the whole debate of why Tamil cinema cannot be able to do that.
Caste based cinema
Pa.Ranjith, Mari Selvaraj, Vetrimaaran all make films based on cast themes, this is the fact, but that does not mean Tamil cinema only produces movies based on caste, they too produce commercial cinema. Mainstream stars flourish in making masala cinema, but somehow their cinema is not crossing boundaries.
It is not the filmmakers fault when their movies get success at the box office window. These filmmakers have the right to make their own films, they have the right to express their own voice because it’s their life experience and freedom of speech is for everybody.
