Central Govt Sanctions Rs. 1,487 Cr to Telangana for Education Reforms

Education Reforms: The Central Government has announced that it will allocate Rs. 1,487.76 crore to the state of Telangana under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan scheme. This decision was taken in the Project Approval Board meeting held in Delhi on March 15. The Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan scheme is designed with the aim of comprehensively developing school education. As part of this, programs like creation of infrastructure in schools, training of teachers and providing quality education to students will be undertaken.


In Detail

The Central Government has announced that it will allocate Rs 1,487.76 crore to the Telangana State under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan Scheme. This decision was taken at the Project Approval Board (PAB) meeting held in Delhi on March 15. While the state authorities have requested an allocation of Rs 2,000 crore from the Center for the 2025-26 academic year, the funds granted were less than last year.

The Center has agreed to allocate Rs 1,945 crore to the state for the 2024-25 academic year. The Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan Scheme is designed with the aim of comprehensively developing school education. As part of this, programs such as creating infrastructure in schools, training teachers, and providing quality education to students will be undertaken.


The central government’s reduction in funding is likely to impact school education in the state.

 

It is yet to be known for what programs the state government will use these funds. The central government has not disclosed the reasons for the reduction in funding. The state government is likely to negotiate with the center and get additional funds.

About the Programs

Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan is an educational program launched by the Government of India. It aims to comprehensively develop school education. Under this scheme, programs such as providing quality education to students from pre-school to class 12, improving school infrastructure, and training teachers are being undertaken. The scheme is designed to combine three main programs. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamika Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), and Teacher Education.

 

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan-The government launched this scheme to make free and compulsory education a fundamental right for all children between the ages of 6-14. The Atal Bihari Vajpayee government took it up as an ambitious program to universalize primary education through the 86th Amendment to the Constitution of India .

Rashtriya Madhyamika Shiksha Abhiyan Its main objective is to develop secondary education in India. Launched in 2009, this scheme has brought about many changes in the education sector. With the aim of improving opportunities through education, it strives to promote the education of Indian students in all ways.

Teacher education is the process of preparing students to become teachers. In this training, teachers learn the knowledge, skills, attitudes and teaching methods they need. Thus, they are prepared to work effectively in the classroom, in the school and in society.
