DA hike July 2025:
The Central Government plans to bring positive news for its employees and pensioners. A fresh hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) may take effect from July 2025. DA supports government workers and retirees in handling inflation and rising prices. The government revises DA twice a year—in January and July.
In March 2025, the government raised the DA by 2%, moving it from 53% to 55%. Over one crore central employees and pensioners benefited. That increase applied from January 1, 2025. Before that, the government increased DA in July 2024 from 50% to 53%.
Employees and pensioners now await the DA update for the July to December 2025 period. This will mark the final revision under the 7th Pay Commission. The government usually announces the July DA hike around October or November after reviewing the inflation data.
The Labour Bureau, operating under the Ministry of Labour, released the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) for March 2025. The index rose by 0.2 points, reaching 143.0. The index tracks price changes in essential goods and services used by industrial workers.
The 7th Pay Commission links DA to this index. Authorities calculate DA by averaging the AICPI-IW over 12 months. A downward trend appeared from November 2024 to February 2025. The index started to climb again in March 2025, pointing to a potential DA hike.
Experts estimated the average DA at 57.06% as of March 2025. If the index continues to rise or holds steady in April, May and June 2025, the average may touch 57.86%. Authorities round DA to the nearest whole number. If the final average crosses 57.50%, the DA could rise to 58%. If it remains below that mark, the hike may remain at 57%.
Current trends suggest a possible 2% or 3% increase in DA for July 2025. Analysts believe the final decision depends on the AICPI-IW values for the next three months. Over one crore central government employees and pensioners could benefit from this increase.
