Gautham Vasudev Menon Exposes the Dark Side of the Film Industry. Gautham Vasudev Menon is an exceptional director who needs no special introduction. The mastermind behind some of the successful movies has had his share of struggles in the industry. Though he had some of the most cherished films of all time, he faced many struggles in the industry to reach where he is today. The director now revealed the hurdles he faced with releasing Vikram’s film Dhruva Natchathiram: Chapter One – Yuddha Kaandam. Now Gautham Vasudev Menon unveils the film industry’s hidden dark side.
In a recent interview, Menon was asked to name one person from the industry that has been there for him as a helping hand. But the director did reply oppositely. He quickly said, “I don’t have anyone like that. That’s the truth, I’m not trying to make a statement here. But, when Dhruva Natichathram (2017) was not released, nobody called, and nobody even bothered to find out what was happening. Nobody even knows the issue.”
In the same interview, he went on to add and reveal the harsh reality of the film industry. The cherished director said, “If a film goes well, nobody will be happy about it. I only sound cynical and negative but it’s the truth. Nobody cares. Very few people like Dhanu sir and Lingusamy…they’ve seen the film, they’ve tried to…they’ve got their own issues. I’ve shown the film to a few studios. When the studios check with the people here, they ask them to not take the film as it has issues, when it has none. I’m still surviving (due to the audience still wanting to watch the film), so I won’t be able to take the hit.”
For those unaware, Dhruva Natchathiram is an unreleased film since 2017, starring Vikram, Ritu Varma, R Parthiban, Radhika Sarathkumar, Simran, and Vinayakan. Originally launched with Suriya in 2013, it has faced numerous delays due to financial issues and the Covid-19 pandemic. Director Gautham has made several attempts to release the film over the years, but it remains stuck in production limbo.
