Google Lays Off 200 Employees Amid AI Shift

Google Lays Off: Google has laid off around 200 employees from its global business team. This department handles sales and partnerships. The news was first shared by The Information, which cited someone familiar with the situation.

Google Lays Off:

The tech giant said it is making changes in its teams to improve how they work together and respond to customer needs more quickly. This is part of a wider trend among big technology companies. Many are now focusing their resources on artificial intelligence (AI) and building data centers. At the same time, they are cutting costs in other areas.

This is not the first time Google has reduced its workforce. In January 2023, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, announced it would cut 12,000 jobs, which was about 6% of its total employees. As of December 2024, the company had over 183,000 workers.

Recently, Google also cut hundreds of jobs in its platforms and devices division. This unit includes popular products like Android, Pixel phones, and the Chrome browser.

Other large tech companies have also been laying off workers. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, let go of around 5% of its staff in January. Microsoft removed 650 jobs from its Xbox gaming division. Amazon has also laid off employees in several of its departments. Even Apple made cuts, removing about 100 jobs from its digital services group last year.

These layoffs show a major shift in the tech industry. While AI and new technologies are getting more attention and funding, companies are being more careful with their spending in other areas.

The recent cuts at Google are seen as a move to stay efficient and competitive in a fast-changing tech world. While this can be hard for employees, it also reflects how businesses are adapting to new technology trends and economic conditions.
