India’s largest private sector lender HDFC Bank reported a 6.68% rise in standalone net profit for the fourth quarter of FY25 to ₹17,616.14 crore. It is a significant increase from ₹16,511.85 crore during the similar period last year. Net interest income (NII), a key gauge of core banking performance, increased by 10.3% year-on-year to ₹32,070 crore, reflective of strong growth in interest income. HDFC Bank’s Q4 numbers show its resilience and growth potential and make it a gem in Indian banking.
The board of HDFC Bank has sanctioned a dividend of ₹22 per equity share for the financial year 2024-25. The record date for ascertaining the eligible shareholders has been designated as June 27, 2025. The move indicates HDFC Bank’s decision to reward the shareholders despite strong financial performance.
Slump in Total Income
Even with a rise in net profit, HDFC Bank experienced a fall in its total income marginally, which was at ₹89,488 crore in Q4 FY25 from ₹89,639 crore during the previous year in the same quarter. This marginal fall is the issue of maintaining the same revenue sources.
The bank experienced a marginal deterioration in asset quality with gross NPAs rising to 1.33% of gross loans as of March 2025 compared to 1.24% of the last year. Similarly, net NPAs rose from 0.33% to 0.43% for the same period. Although these numbers are a marginal decline, they are in tolerable limits for a bank of HDFC’s size.
Interest Income and Consolidated Profit
HDFC Bank interest income for the March-ended quarter was ₹77,460 crore compared with ₹71,473 crore during the corresponding period of the previous year. Consolidated net profit was 6.8% higher at ₹18,835 crore.
Capital Adequacy and Balance Sheet Growth
Basel III CAR for the bank was 19.6%, indicative of its strength. Total size of balance sheet stood at ₹39.10 lakh crore against ₹36.17 lakh crore in FY24.
