Huge Jet Fuel Price Cuts: Will Air Travel Get Cheaper Soon?

Huge Jet Fuel Price Cuts: Oil marketing companies have cut the price of commercial gas cylinders as well as jet fuel used in aircraft. This cut in the price of jet fuel or aviation turbine fuel (ATF) for the second consecutive month has increased the hope of air travel becoming cheaper. Jet fuel had become somewhat cheaper last month as well, but this time there has been a significant cut in prices.


The new prices

After the update of prices, the price of jet fuel for domestic flights in the capital, Delhi, has come down to below Rs 90 thousand per kiloliter. In Mumbai, its price has come down to less than 84 thousand kiloliters. At the same time, the price of ATF in Kolkata and Chennai remains more than 90 thousand kiloliters. On the other hand, the price of jet fuel for international flights has also seen a decline of more than $50 per kiloliter.

Why it’s a big deal

Fuel accounts for more than 40% of the total cost of flying commercial flights for airlines. In other words, more than 40 percent of the total expenses of airlines is spent on fuel. In such a situation, the effect of fluctuations in fuel prices is also seen on flight tickets. Now that there has been a big cut in ATF prices. It can be expected that companies will make air travel cheaper by giving some benefits to the passengers.

For domestic flights

According to a media report, the price of jet fuel for domestic flights in Delhi has seen a reduction of Rs 5,870.54 per kiloliter. Now the prices here have come down from 95,311.72 kiloliters to 89,441.18 kiloliters. At the same time, the price of jet fuel in Kolkata has come down from 97,588.66 kiloliters to 91,921 kiloliters. The price of jet fuel in Mumbai has come down from 89,070.03 kiloliters to 83,575.42 kiloliters. Similarly, the price of jet fuel for domestic flights in Chennai has come down by Rs 6064.1 per kiloliter. It has come down from 98,567.90 kiloliters to 92,503.80 kiloliters.

For international flights

A huge reduction in the price of jet fuel has been seen for international flights as well. According to Indian Oil data, its price in Delhi has come down by $53.91. Now the price here has come down to $794.41 per kiloliter. After a reduction of $54.04 in Kolkata, its price has come down to $832.88 per kiloliter. Fuel prices for international flights in Mumbai and Chennai have seen a decline of $52.7 and $53.37, respectively. After this update, the price in Mumbai has become $794.40, and in Chennai, the price has become $789.76 per kiloliter.
