Infosys 4th Layoffs in 2025: Over 195 Trainees Lost Their Jobs

Infosys 4th Layoffs in 2025: Over 195 Trainees Lost Their Jobs

In the most recent round of staff restructurings in Infosys’ Mysuru campus, nearly 195 trainees have been let go following allegedly failing the company’s in-house test. Infosys 4th Layoffs has left the entire job market shocked due to the uncertainity of the financial stability. It is the fourth such round of layoffs by the IT giant this year until now, and the figure stands at around 800 impacted trainees since February.

Earlier Layoffs in 2025

This latest lay-off comes in the wake of three earlier Infosys trainee lay-offs during 2025:

February: More than 300 trainees were reportedly terminated from the Mysuru campus for under-performance in internal exams. This first major lay-off generated wide media coverage and outrage.
March: Although the actual number is contentious, approximately 30-45 other trainees were reported to have been directed to exit based on under-performance.
Mid-April: Around 240 additional trainees were yet to be retrenched after they could not deliver the performance required in their internal tests.
Infosys 4th Layoffs in 2025:

The most probable reason quoted by the reports for these successive retrenchments is the inability of the trainees to pass Infosys’ internal test series despite being offered several opportunities, extra time to prepare, and sessions of clearing doubts.

However, there are also more general industry trends in the IT sector and corporate performance that may be behind this trend:

Subdued Business Environment: The IT services sector is going through a phase of slow growth and economic uncertainty, and hence companies are rationalizing their staff and maintaining a high-performing talent pool. Infosys itself has guided to a modest revenue growth in the fiscal year 2026.
Target on Performance Standards: Infosys asserts that its training and testing procedures are strict and critical to maintain the quality of its employees. The company has announced that these tests are part of their trainee policy.
Cost Optimization: Dismissing trainees who cannot perform to the required standards can be a cost-saving measure for the company during an economic downturn.
Change in Recruitment Policy: There will be greater stress on experienced professionals to address more complex IT needs, and therefore there will be greater screening of new recruits.
Help to Affected Trainees

Infosys has provided several types of help to the affected trainees, such as:

Severance Package: According to reports, the affected trainees are provided with one month’s salary and a relieving letter.
Upskilling Programs: Infosys has tied up with NIIT and UpGrad to offer free upskilling programs to enable the trainees to develop their IT skills or switch to the Business Process Management (BPM) stream.
Outplacement Services: Support is being provided to facilitate the trainees in getting an alternative job.
Logistical Arrangements: For those trainees going back to their hometowns or moving to Bangalore, Infosys is making travel arrangements and transport allowances available. Boarding at the Mysuru Employee Care Centre is also said to be offered until departure.
The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has been in protest, complaining to the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, asking them to intervene and conduct a proper inquiry into the redundancies. They have been complaining of a lack of transparency and fairness in the appraisal procedure and casual communication with the Apprenticeship Adviser.
