Ever since the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI), it has been said that it is dangerous for humans, especially in terms of jobs. There is a contradiction about whether AI will replace humans in terms of jobs or not. Many experts call it a rumor, while many support it. But now, Microsoft’s CTO predicts on AI, Chief Technology Officer Kevin Scott has made a big prediction.
He says that in the next 5 years, about 95% of the code will be written by AI. Although this will be a big change, Scott has also made it clear that the role of human developers will not end. But they will continue to make important contributions to the software engineering process.
During a conversation in the 20VC podcast, Microsoft CTO Rredicts Scott said that in the future, there will be very little code that will be written line-by-line by humans. But this does not mean that the need for humans will end. He said that AI will only handle heavy coding. While creative tasks like writing code and problem-solving will still be done by humans.
History and changes of coding
Kevin Scott, who has been coding for the last 40 years, gave the example of the 1980s. When people considered only assembly language as “true” coding, but gradually the programming world adopted high-level languages. According to Scott, the increasing role of coding by AI is also a similar change, which will gradually be adopted by the entire industry.

The need for human programmers will not end
Although AI will completely change the world of software development. Scott believes that the need for expert programmers will remain, especially when it comes to solving complex problems. Microsoft CTO Rredicts said, “If you are solving the world’s hardest computational problems, you have to do it.” If you want to solve these problems, you need real computer scientists.”
Are coding jobs at risk?
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says the capabilities of individual engineers will grow rapidly. But it’s possible that over time we’ll need fewer engineers.
Replit CEO Amjad Massaad even says that “if AI agents become this capable, learning to code will be a waste of time.”
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei estimates that in the next six months AI will start generating about 90% of its code on its own.
