Stock Market Closed Today: On May 1, 2025, the Indian stock market remains closed as the country observes Maharashtra Day. The state celebrates this day to mark the formation of Maharashtra, treating it as a public holiday. Since the main stock exchanges – the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the National Stock Exchange (NSE), and the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) – are located in Mumbai, they observe this state holiday.
As per the official list of stock market holidays released by the BSE and NSE, there is no trading activity in the Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment, and Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) Segment today. Similarly, the Currency Derivatives Segment and Tri-Party Repo markets remain shut for the day.
Investors should check the complete list of market holidays for 2025 on the official websites of BSE (bseindia.com) and NSE. This list helps them plan investments and trading activities ahead of time.
The Commodity Derivatives and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) segments do not operate during the morning session from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. These segments resume trading in the evening session after 5:00 PM.
Maharashtra Day marks the only stock market holiday in May 2025. The Indian stock market does not include any other holidays this month.
Looking ahead, the next market holiday will be on August 15 for Independence Day, followed by Ganesh Chaturthi on August 27. In October, markets will remain closed on three different occasions – Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, Diwali on October 21, and Diwali Balipratipada on October 22. November and December have two more holidays – Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 5 and Christmas on December 25.
Normal trading activity in the Indian stock market will resume tomorrow, Friday, May 2, 2025.
