Tirupati: A new bus stand is coming up in Tirupati to provide all the facilities to the devotees who come from all over the world to visit Tirumala Srivari, the resident of Kaliyuga Vaikuntha . A state-of-the-art ultra-model bus terminal will be built in place of the current bus stand. It will provide all the facilities to the devotees in one place.
This project will be undertaken at a cost of about Rs. 500 crore. It will include hotels, restaurants and dormitories along with the bus stand. While the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation will provide the land, the Central Government agency National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLMML) will invest some of the money. The remaining funds will be raised by a private company. Its design will be to reflect the Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple.
The existing Tirupati bus stand is spread over 13.18 acres. The new terminal will be built on 12.19 acres. The existing bus stand has roads on three sides. The new terminal has been designed to have roads on four sides. The new bus stand will have a two-storey cellar. This cellar will be used for parking bikes and cars. The entire ground floor will be allocated for the bus stand. There will be a large bus stand with 98 platforms. Moreover, arrangements will be made for parking 50 buses and charging of electric buses.
A portion of the first and second floors will be given to RTC offices. The remaining space will be used for food courts and shops. The third floor will be left for services. This means that electrical work related to the building, the control room for CCTV cameras, etc. will be located here. The fourth to seventh floors will be used for hotels, restaurants, dormitories and other business purposes. The eighth, ninth and tenth floors will house banks, government or private offices. A helipad will also be built on the tenth floor for helicopter landing. The building will be 1.54 lakh square feet in total.
In this project, RTC is not investing in providing valuable land. NHLMML will invest some and the contractor will invest some. After the project is completed, the income generated from hotels, restaurants, dormitories, banks and offices will be shared between RTC, NHLMML and the contractor. An agreement will be reached on who will get what share.
Passengers will not face any inconvenience during the construction of the bus stand. The current bus stand will be shifted to two or three places. Some buses will be sent to Mangalam depot. Temporary bus stands will be set up at TTD site near Alipiri and at some places on the Tiruchanur route.
This bus terminal is being constructed as per the wishes of Srivari devotees coming to Tirumala. The design responsibility has been entrusted to Rail India Technical and Economic Service Limited (RITES). The design has been designed to reflect the Srivari temple. The entrance gate has been designed to resemble the Tirumala temple. They are also considering building a kilometer-long skywalk to go directly from the railway station to the bus stand.
