Your Phone Pe, Google Pay Will Not Work From April 1, Here’s why

UPI payments has become very handy for our daily life. From a five rupee chocolate to 30 thousand phone, we can get it all. You go to the market to buy something and when you start making the payment, suddenly your Google Pay or PhonePe stops working. How would you feel if your important UPI transaction fails? This can happen from April 1 if your bank account is linked to an old or inactive mobile number. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has made a big decision to prevent cyber fraud. If your number has changed or has been inactive for a long time, then immediately go to the bank and get it updated, otherwise UPI services may stop. Your Phone Pe, Google Pay Will Not Work From April 1, Here’s the reason and new rules explained.

New UPI rules from April 1:

According to the reports, if your bank account is linked to a mobile number that has not been used for a long time, then that number will be removed from UPI. That is, you will not be able to transact on apps like Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm with that number. This rule has been made by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Their main goal is to prevent cyber fraud and make the banking system more secure. If your bank account is linked to an old or closed mobile number, then get it updated as soon as possible so that UPI services continue to run without any interruption.

To prevent cyber crime

NPCI has taken this decision in view of the increasing cases of online fraud in recent years. Many times telecom companies give old and closed mobile numbers to new customers. In such a situation, if that number was previously linked to a bank account or UPI, then its information can reach the new person, which increases the risk of fraud. Apart from this, such closed numbers can also cause technical problems in the banking and UPI system. Therefore, NPCI has instructed all banks and UPI services to remove such old, active mobile numbers from the system. So that online transactions can be more secure.

If you are not using the mobile number linked to your bank account for a long time, then you should check it soon. In another case, If your number is closed or you have not recharged it for a long time, then get it activated again. If you no longer have that number, then immediately contact the bank. Then you can get a new mobile number updated in your account. This will ensure that your UPI transactions continue without any problem.

Strict instructions to banks

NPCI has asked banks and UPI app companies to check the closed mobile numbers every week and update their records. Also, customers have been asked to give information about this from time to time so that no one faces any problem. Therefore, if you want to use UPI without interruption. Then quickly check the mobile number linked to your bank account and keep it active.
