Uttarakhand Army Camp:

On August 5, 2025, flash floods hit an Army camp in Uttarakhand’s Harshil. It was a tragic incident. Eight to ten soldiers went missing after the flood. A sudden cloudburst caused the floods around 1:45 pm near Dharali village. The village is 4 kilometers from the camp. Dharali is a popular stop on the way to Gangotri. It is known for its hotels, restaurants, and homestays.

Uttarakhand Army Camp:

The cloudburst, which took place in the catchment area of the Kheer Ganga River, led to severe flooding in the region. Within minutes, the Army mobilized 150 personnel to assist in the rescue operations. Rescue teams immediately began evacuating trapped villagers and providing critical aid to those affected by the disaster.

The Indian Army issued a statement assuring that the situation is being closely monitored, with full efforts underway to assist affected civilians. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his deep sadness over the situation, describing it as “extremely sad and distressing.” He confirmed that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local teams were working tirelessly to provide relief.

The disaster is a stark reminder of the vulnerability of the region to flash floods. It highlights the need for enhanced early warning systems. The Uttarakhand government and military are working together to ensure the safety of the remaining soldiers and civilians. They continue to search for the missing personnel.
