6 Tips to save on electricity bills during the monsoon

The monsoon season, with its cool breezes, heavy downpours, and relief from the summertime heat, can bring increased electricity usage. From power cuts to humidity control appliances and restricted sunlight, people end up relying more on electrical devices. 6 Tips to save on electricity bills during the monsoon without giving up comfort.

Tips to save on electricity bills during the monsoon:

Use Natural Ventilation When Possible

You can use less air conditioners and coolers when it gets a little cooler. Open windows to let fresh air in. Ceiling fans use far less energy than ACs, so switching to fans whenever possible can make a big difference.

Switch to LED and Energy-Efficient Appliances

Monsoons leave skies dark and indoor environments lighted poorly. Installing LED lights in replacement of old bulbs consumes almost 80% less energy. Also check status of heavy-use appliances such as geyser, washing machine, and refrigerator.

Unplug During Power Outages and Storms

Frequent power failures and lightning strikes are very damaging to appliances. Always unplug the devices that are not needed during a storm to protect them from damage and prevent phantom electricity consumption-a hidden source of bill hikes.

Washing and Drying Clothes Efficiently

The delay caused by humidity in the rainy season adds the drying time; however, the use of a dryer will in itself lead to an increase in power consumption. Instead, spit-dry clothes in the washing machine at high speed and hang in well-ventilated areas. Instead of washing in small amounts wash full loads.

Limit Usage of Geyser and Water Heater

Cold showers will be more bearable during monsoon. If one still needs warm water, then instant geysers or solar heaters should be the choice. Turn off the water heater after heating the water to prevent wastage.

Properly Insulate The House

Fix window or door leaks that bring dampness into the house and unnecessary cooling needs. Make use of thick curtains to trap natural light and warmth during the day so that there is no need for extra lighting and heating devices.
