Lesser Known Facts About the 9/11 Terror Attack

9/11 Terror Attack: As of now, the September 11, 2001, attack remains the deadliest. Suicide terrorists hijacked U.S. passenger planes and slammed them into two towers in New York, killing thousands. They used four aircraft in coordinated strikes that killed close to 3,000 people. The dead included 343 firefighters, 72 police officers, and 55 military personnel. The attacks also killed people from more than 90 nations.

Two planes struck the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. Both 110-story skyscrapers collapsed into enormous dust clouds in less than two hours. The third plane hit the western front of the Pentagon, the U.S. military headquarters. Passengers fought the hijackers on the fourth plane, forcing it to crash into a Pennsylvania field. As the attacks unfolded, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) took the historic step of grounding all civilian aircraft in the United States. Officials forced more than 4,500 planes to land immediately and suspended all takeoffs for days, leaving the American sky empty for the first time in history.

9/11 Hijack Story:

Approximately forty minutes after takeoff from Newark Liberty International Airport, hijackers seized United Flight 93. The plane was headed for California, but a delayed departure proved crucial. Passengers learned about the other assaults through cell phones and Airfone conversations and realized their fate might mirror the destruction in New York and Washington. Several passengers organized a rebellion. Thomas Burnett Jr. told his wife over the phone, “I know we’re all going to die. Three of us are planning to take action. Honey, you are loved.”

Another traveler, Todd Beamer, asked, “Are you guys ready? Come on, let’s roll. According to reports, flight attendant Sandy Bradshaw prepared for a fight by filling pitchers with hot water. “Everyone’s running to first class,” she said to her husband as she was dying. I must leave. Goodbye. It is thought that the passengers stormed the cockpit with a fire extinguisher. All 44 people on board were killed when the hijackers responded by crashing the aircraft into a field close to Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Terrorist Attack in America:

Terrorists targeted the World Trade Center before 9/11. In February 1993, they detonated a truck bomb in the North Tower’s parking garage, killing six people and wounding nearly 1,000.

How much time did it take to clear the 9/11 Attack Premises:

Rescuers, construction workers, and volunteers spent nine months clearing the destruction from Ground Zero. They risked their health in dangerous conditions to remove an estimated 1.8 million tons of debris.
